Vic: Two charged over stolen bushfire funds

MELBOURNE, Feb 13 AAP - Police have charged two people with stealing money raised for
Victorian bushfire victims.

A 36-year-old Ferntree Gully man is accused of breaking in to Ferny Creek Primary School,
east of Melbourne, on Thursday morning, and stealing cash and cheques worth several thousand
dollars that had been collected for bushfire victims.

Police said the man was apprehended by police as he was running away on the school
grounds and he faces charges of burglary and theft.

Meanwhile, a 16-year-old has been charged over the theft of a bushfire appeal charity
tin from a McDonald's restaurant in Thomastown on Wednesday.

He was arrested about 2.30am (AEDT) on Thursday in High Street, Epping, and charged
with two counts of theft and one of possessing proceeds of crime.

Both are expected to appear in court on Friday.
