HIGH PEAK Borough Council have denied claims they want to sell off Buxton's "Crown Jewels".
At a meeting of the borough council's executive on Tuesday night, councillors hit back at claims that proposals to turn the Pavilion Gardens building into a regional food hall would amount to selling off the town's crown jewels.
Cllr Mike Harrison said: "I know there has been some rabid headlines about selling off the crown jewels. This is more about repairing the crown jewels at someone else's expense.
"A lot of money needs spending on the crown jewels of Buxton and it would be difficult to find that money if it is not from an external source.
