Vic: Seals go behind scenes as public pool springs leak

The seal exhibit at Melbourne Zoo has been locked down after its public pool sprang a leak.

Zoo spokeswoman JUDITH HENKE says the five Australian fur seals are getting extra attentionfrom keepers in their night quarters, while experts try to find and repair the leak.

Meanwhile, Ms HENKE says, the seals' welfare has been ensured.

She says they've got access to the big pool behind the scenes with 30 cm of water, and they're happy scooting around in that.

The pool was built in 1937 as a monkey exhibit called Monkey Island, and was convertedto a seal pool 50 years ago.
